The phrase "On Page" refers to the search engine optimization that is actually carried out to your website.
This process is carried out to each page of your website so that when Google sends a "Spider" to have a look, Google will know exactly what each page is about and what searches to include it for.
There are over 100 different "On Page" factors that will affect your google ranking so with that in mind, it is important to make sure that your pages are focused on what you want them to rank for and not a wide theme.
Look at it from the search engines point of view, if you look at millions of pages about fishing, and on site has a mention in paragraph 3 about going fishing on your holidays, and a second site has a Page Title of "Fishing Holidays", meta tags "Fishing Holidays", page headings, images and lots of content about where to fish, bait, where to stay, what equipment to use etc..... if you were Google what order would you rank them in?
That is the basic starting point for your optimization, are you giving good content that Google thinks will provide its searchers with the answers that they are seeking?
If Google believes that your site has some really good pages on it about a specific topic then it will choose your pages over anyone elses.
It is important to point out that this process can easily be overdone too, so care must be taken not to "spam" the search engines with too much focused content. If you add too many keywords or too much repitition of the same keywords then Google will conclude that your page isn't natural for its searchers and that you are trying to fool it into ranking you higher than it should do.
By understanding these basics it is possible to create great content filled pages that your visitors will love, but that will also rank well, driving more visitors to your site. |
